Nerone, a variety of rice black pericarp rice, is the output of the Company's Research and Development department. Nerone features enhanced agronomic characteristics: short size to improve the lodging resistance, precocious cycle and an average production of 7 ton per ha, a remarkable improvement for this variety. Moreover Nerone features an excellent quality of the grain, underlined by the uniform, marked black colour.

The nutritional profile of Nerone has been successfully tested by the Department of Food Science and Microbiology of the University of Milan.

The test measured the total polyphenolic content using the spectrophotometric analysis of the phenolic substances. For example, the HPLC analysis of the class of anthocyanin measured the anthocyanin fragmentation and the antioxidant properties. The latter have been confronted with the absorbency values of a reference sample antioxidant molecule according to the Trolox standard (in this case the measure refers to the TEAC Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity).  The result has been expressed in nmol/mg of Nerone rice flour.

The analysis underlines that all the parameters of Nerone prevail over the selected sample.

By comparison with other varieties, the nutritional profile of Nerone shows a higher iron content. Compared with similar rice varieties, Nerone contains a quantity of iron 4 times higher, a feature making Nerone useful in case of deficiency of this micro-element in the diet. The analysis of the macro-elements reveals a higher content of phosphorus (up to the 34%), magnesium (up to 12%) and fibres (the double compared with the average).

These characteristics make Nerone an interesting product for the industry and in particular for the final consumer whose appreciation of this rice derives from the antioxidant capacity to challenge the action of the free radicals and from its high nutritional content. For all these reasons, Nerone is the natural nutritional supplement in a well-balanced diet.
